Is gene therapy a cure for cancer?

Who out there believes that gene therapy may be the way to eliminate tumors, thus prolonging the life of terminal cancer patients? I'm trying to sort my opinions on this controversial treatment and I was just curious as to what everyone else out there is thinking...
